I used to live on the border of two suburbs: Surry Hills and Redfern. When people asked where I lived, I said 'East Surryfern'. One day I signed up for a mailing list using this name, and the mail still arrived in my box. I then got friends and family to send me letters using a variety of different 'suburbs'. The next step is to colonise a street with an alternative suburb name.
